How to configure DNS records in DreamHost for Mailman3.com?

If your website is hosted on DreamHost but you want to migrate your Mailman mailing lists to Mailman3.com, you need to update the DNS records related to the Mailman server. DreamHost automatically generates DNS records for its Mailman 2 service and does not allow them to be edited freely.

Follow the steps below to update the records:

1. Rename your Mailman 2 server from, for example, "lists" to "lists-backup" using the "Discussion list hostname" field in the "Edit" dialog under the "Mail - Discussion Lists" menu.

2. Go to the "Websites - Manage Websites" menu, click "Add Website", and use the "Create a Subdomain" section to add your Mailman3.com domain as a subdomain of your DreamHost website, for example, "lists.your-website.com". Select "Setup DNS" and click "Set to DNS only".

3. Use the "DNS" link for the subdomain on the "Manage Websites" page to add DNS records of A and TXT types. ⚠️ Note that the "lists.your-website.com" part will be added automatically by DreamHost, and if the record name is empty, as with A and SPF records, it should contain the "@" symbol.

4. Use DreamHost's "Custom MX" page to add the MX record.
